KNITTING WITH KIDS
For a series of articles called "Knitting with Kids" originally published in Cast On magazine from 1994-1996 by Nancie Wiseman, visit the Lessons and Articles archive in the TKGA Member Login pages.

TKGA encourages helping children everywhere learn to knit. We thank you if you are involved in teaching children in your family or among your friends. If your teaching efforts involve a group of children, such as a scout troop or an afterschool activity, you may want to look into a special resource like the Helping Hands Foundation's Needle Arts Mentoring Program (SM), which is dedicated specifically to teaching children across America the needle arts. The program is supported by various industry providers with donated supplies and lesson booklets, and if you qualify these materials can be sent for your class. Note that this is for children only, and supplies are sent as available. For more information visit www.needleartsmentoring.org.

A free knitting lesson can be found at http://www.tkga.com/pdf/howtoknit05.pdf.

If you are looking for a simple knitting project for children, you might consider the Precious Pals (SM) program. Children can knit simple sweaters or other outfits for stuffed animals and donate the finished Pals to local fire or police departments where they are used by first responders to help children in crisis. A sweater pattern for a stuffed bear can be found on the Precious Pals web page.
